A genuine original Royal Air Force Officers Field service side cap made by S & P Harris Ltd of Glasgow which dates from 1945.  

These caps were a popular alternative to the peaked cap for RAF officers during WWII as they are much easier to store in a pocket.  They were worn throughout the war in theatres and are common to see in period photos and film footage.  

This example is made from the standard RAF blue coloured barathea wool which is usually used for this pattern of hat.  It features the brass RAF insignia with the Kings Crown Badge to the left side and two Bakelite Kings crown RAF buttons to the front.  

The interior of the cap is lined, and a velvet headband is fitted around the opening.  Inside the cap the original makers name is present together with the RAF markings. 

The cap measures size 7. The cap is in its condition when last worn with some limited signs of wear and age.  The blue barathea wool is still a good colour and the lining is also reasonably clean. There is a small hole in the material at one end of the cap and the badges are somewhat tarnished.  Please look carefully at the set of photographs as they support the description.

No attempt has been made to renovate this authentic cap, so it retains its authenticity and is an attractive item to a collector of militaria.
