The magazines were issued by the Air Ministry Intelligence Aerial Photograph department and were only for the RAF officers mess. RAF Medmenham was the place and Chief of Air Staff, Sir Charles Portal was the gentleman behind the first issue in October 1942 - a restricted publication for obvious reasons. Within the magazine there were cartoons.  As to whether this particular cartoon was ever used in a magazine I do not know. There were 114 issues of the magazine. You will see some of the cartoons are signed by Cox and Phipps. I can only find Julian Phipps as he later became a cartoonist for " The Daily Telegraph " and in 1953 he was the strip cartoon editor for the " Daily Mirror " and " Daily Sketch ". The cartoons relate to RAF life and aerial photos taken from the aircrafts. Each photograph has an unusual silvery shiny fine outer border edge and has been pinned in each corner. On the back of them all they have a rectangular purple ink stamp which says R.A.F. OFFICIAL COPYRIGHT CROWN RESERVED with the CROWN in the middle. These have been pinned to a board and may have creases and dirty marks on the surfaces. No rips or tears from what I can see. This photo shows a cartoon sketch of an officer stood in front of a chalkboard with a couple of drawings of planes on it. The caption says: "The T.A.B.E. 42. Main high performance trainer. Designed for long-range reconnaissance - has had considerable success with shipping. Good nose for observation but no flaps. Has much in common with J.U. 52. *Not characteristic chalk camouflage" I googled T.A.B.E. 42 and it does not see any German aircraft with these abbreviations... but the J.U. 52 is well known as a Junkers.  Signed by Cox. The photograph measures approx. 22cm x 16cm in total.  My stock ref: .... in folder #JR To see ALL my other items for sale: please click on the  VISIT SHOP link on any listing available near my seller name.
