This Auction is for a beautiful ANTIQUE VICTORIAN OVAL PICTURE FRAME with superb Gesso detailing to the border and with a pretty Victorian image of a Lady. It comes with it's original glass and backing.

It's got lots of age, easily over 100 years of age and consequently it does have one minor area of damage, however that's not to say that this lovely gilt gesso frame can't give you tons of pleasure. You will just love finding a favourite image to go in this opulent pretty mount.

Currently it is home to a beautiful print portrait of a glamorous Victorian lady resplendent in all her finery with fine Pearl jewellery, it is a lovely Oval shape & has beautiful shapely scalloped gesso edging applied foliate areas of built up leafy gesso to the border. It has a magnificent Tiara shaped Cartouche to the crown which sets the whole thing off perfectly. It also has a lovely matching Foliate Cartouche cabachon to the base, creating a superb symmetry, very romantic, I could see this frame holding an image of a loved one. It has a lot of age, I would say around mid 19th century. The gesso has dulled just a tad over the years, I think it suits it but you may decide to regild, I prefer it just as it is.

Whenever I come across an old frame like this at a car-boot OR an auction I simply CANNOT leave it behind. I just know that someone out there will love it. Placing together 3 or 4 antique frames on a wall can create an amazing interiors 'high style' grandiose effect. This frame is listed at a reasonable 'Buy-It-Now' price so if you want this item as a matter of urgency I will get it flying to you toute-de-suite, it really will suit a picture of a loved one and will release endorphins every time you glance at it...!

It measures 16.5" by 13.5" the interior measurement for your image is 13.5" by 11". Will take a really nice head & shoulders photo, perhaps a vignette.

Condition is as mentioned for me EXCELLENT but does have a little damage to the top gesso area, the crown if you will, it is essentially sound all the way round but at some stage a part of the gesso has broken and someone has tried their hand at fixing it, age commensurate wear, no major damages just the one minor niggle, BUT for me a minor impairment like this in my opinion just ADDS to the character, & character is what this frame has in abundance! Please take in ALL of the supersized pics to get a true impression of the character of this super antique Oval picture frame.
