Stunning Vintage Art Deco Maling Blossom Time Lustre Ware Pitcher or Jug, 1930's.
William Maling pottery was established in Sunderland in 1762, later creating other sites in Newcastle upon Tyne. Like many Sunderland potteries, they specialised in lustre ware, their work was characterised using colourful designs often referred to as Gaudy Welsh or Gaudy Dutch. Many early pieces are not marked. Later, the production of elaborate lustred wares, under the guidance of Art Director Lucien Boullemier, prompted the pottery to adopt the advertising slogan of: "the Trademark of Excellence". The company finally closed after more than 200 years of production in 1963.
This is a stylish example from Malings 'Blossom Time' range. The jug features a raised and hand painted apple blossom design against a gently ribbed surface on a piece that has a strong Art Deco shape that add further drama. The piece has an iridescent lustre applied to the surface and also to much of the interior.
The jug has the Maling printed mark to the base and the pattern number 6384 along with the decorators identifying marks.
The jug is offered in good vintage condition with some crazing and no other damage. It measures approx. 19cm tall by 18cm at the widest point.
A great collectors piece or a wonderful addition to a retro inspired home.
