For sale is a figurine of a gentleman made by Derby in about 1756-60. The figure is very well modeled and quite beautifully painted especially his pants! He has a sheep under his right arm and is holding a flower in his left hand. There is also a hat with fruit and flowers by his right side. And there are the usual molded flowers and leaves along the back and on the base. The figurine is in great condition considering his age! The sheep's left ear is restored and there is a thin firing crack on its head, the very front of the base has a little overpainting but it is mostly original and minor, there is a hairline underneath that does show up on the top on the right and left of the base, his left hand was off and is reattached, the right bottom corner of his coat has been worked on a little, the left bottom corner of his vest is restored, the little green thing on his right pant leg was worked on, the bow in his hair was restored and is missing one side, there are two firing cracks to the back, the leaves on the bockage on the left side are restored and as are the leaves on top of the boccage on the right side which might have been longer but the flower on top is original. A few minor chips here and there. An interesting thing is that the glaze along the bottom edge of the base has browned during firing and some doesn't have glaze. Not quite dry edge but close. This sounds like a lot but he displays beautifully and the work is minor and well done! He is unmarked underneath but that's common as well but he does have light patchmarks. The figurine is 9.375 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide and 4 inches deep.
