Welcome to Webberley

For over 40 years I have worked with antiques, specialising in 17th and 18th century British furniture with a particular love of early walnut

Our family name was Webberley and in the 18th and 19th centuries many Webberley men worked as cabinet makers and coach builders.  Henry Webberley-Smith built one of Queen Victoria's carriages and it is still used by the British Royal family today. When I was able to open my first shop it seemed right for it to carry that name

I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice

I have been selling on eBay since 2003 with 100% positive feedback and many returning regular clients

Wonderful Crafted Georgian Burr Yew and Oak Jewellery Casket c. 1825

A very beautiful burr yew and figured oak English Regency casket for jewellery, lined in natural chamois leather.  Principally c. 1825 Originally a Regency tea caddy, a fine antiques restorer based in Kent has worked on this piece for many months and has made this exquisite work of art. The inner figured brown oak compartment is made by hand. There is a working original lock and key and the Regency brass feet are very fine and shaped like overlapping petals. In the 18th and early 19th Century, tea was so expensive and so desirable that it was kept under lock and key in very fine high quality boxes made in exotic timbers such as this. The price of these boxes, often made from the most expensive woods, reflected the high value of the intended contents. Most tea caddies had two compartments and a central glass mixing bowl for combining different loose leaf teas to create the flavour of the day. Two hundred years later tea is generally inexpensive and these original, early tea caddies are no longer used for their original purpose. To see one brought beautifully back to life and purpose in a traditional hand crafted way is a happy thing indeed. The full proceeds from this sale will go to the restorer who has more than 50 years experience working on national museum and private collections of furniture and who is a rare and highly skilled individual. Dimensions are: 12.5 inches wide, 6.5 inches deep and 7 inches high. For metric please multiply by 2.5

UK Deliveries and Collections

We will happily arrange delivery with our specialist couriers.  Delivery charges depend on where you live but are usually £40 to £70.  All of our couriers are Covid conscientious.

We subcontract our deliveries and make no profit on these.  Most couriers send just one driver with your items but if you cannot assist with lifting, we can arrange for an extra pair of hands on the van for an additional sum.

You are also welcome to collect in person or to send your own courier.

Most couriers offer free or reduced rates for second items to the same address.

For larger items and deliveries going to the far West, far North, Scotland, Wales and non UK mainland, charges may be higher so please do ask for a quote.

Overseas Shipping

We ship worldwide and have regular clients in the US, Europe and Australia.  International shipping can be expensive and we can obtain quotations for you from shippers with whom we have negotiated good rates.   eBay does not allow us to enter a range of prices so we have put in a sufficient amount for most of Ireland, France and Germany.
