Pair of Refurbished Vintage Ercol Red Dot Stacking Children’s Chairs
This pair of vintage mid-century Ercol ‘red dot’ chairs, Model 463 are in wonderful, refurbished, condition. The red dot chair is the middle size of Ercol’s range of 5 stacking chairs for children*.
Made in the 1960s from beech (frame) and elm (seat), the stacking chairs are strong and sturdy, though when acquired they were very dirty (having been used in a school for decades); see the final "before" image. They retain part of their original Ercol blue label.
The chairs were thoroughly cleaned and carefully sanded by hand. They were then treated with a high-quality hardwax oil, which brings out the natural colour and grain of the wood while helping to make the chairs stain resistant and water repellent.
The chairs now have a lovely patina, with the refinishing in a hardwax oil helping to retain the warmth and character acquired from decades of use in a school - including knocks and bumps, and the remnants of a red ink stain on one chair!
Please see the images in close-up to check the chairs’ previous and current conditions.
Dimensions: H65cm x W41cm x D43cm. The seat height is 35cm.
*Ercol introduced a range of five stacking children’s chairs, with coloured dots showing the different size of each chair, in the early 1960s. They were made for use in primary schools, with chairs suitable for all ages from infants up to age 11/12. The chairs “passed the rigid performance tests of the British Standards Institute and those sponsored by the Ministry of Education”.
Buyer to collect (from Bicester, OX26 6QG) or arrange courier collection. You may wish to contact www.shiply.com for a quote. Alternatively, please advise your postcode and I'll provide courier and delivery costings - I may be able to deliver the chairs myself, depending on distance. I do not use parcel post services due to the high risk of damage in transit.
