Bamberg is a city in Bavaria, Germany, located in Upper Franconia on the river Regnitz close to its confluence with the river Main.
Bamberg has been an important base for the Bavarian, German and now American military stationed at Warner Barracks.
Just 40 miles north of Nürnberg, Germany, is the historic city of Bamberg. Situated on the Regnitz River, Bamberg is one of the rare German cities completely untouched by Allied bombing in World War II
The city survived World War II because it was not a weapons producing or industrially based area.
The Allies realized they could save at least some German relics and spared Bamberg the disastrous treatment given Nürnberg and Dresden.
