Ww1 & Ww2 Dorsetshire Regiment Brass Economy Cap Badge – 1901-51

This bid is for a WW 1 and WW2 British Army Cap Badge for t he ‘ Dorsetshire Regiment’ (known as The Dorsets) c omplete with its original slider . T he ‘ Dorsets ’ was first formed in 1 881 and went through the 2 nd Boer War, WW1 and WW2 and changed its name to the ‘Dorset Regiment’ in 1951. In 1958 it was amalgamated with the Devonshire Regiment and then amalgamated again in 2007 to become part of ‘The Rifles’. Made from brass , this Other Ranks economy cap badge measures 1 ¾ inch es wide x 1 ¾ inches high. This badge is similar to the badge number 651 shown in Kipling & King Head-Dress Badges of the British Army Vol.1 but being the economy version is all made from brass and not brass and white metal. Over the 25 years plus of collecting militaria, I have read numerous publications regarding reproduction cap badges and have to admit that in some cases it is very, very difficult to confirm that a badge is 100% original or not and in other cases it is very clear that they are reproduction items. I have to say that i n this case, I personally believe this to be a re-strike item. Please ignore the paper label on the back as this refers to my personal collection data.
