FOR WHAT OTHERS ARE LOOKING FOR

Antique and vintage items often make nicer than new gifts ITEM

With so much attention paid to The Potteries, in Staffordshire, other areas of ceramic actvity in England can sometimes be negelected...such as Maling, in Newcastle on Tyne, in England's north-east, which had a pedigree stretching back to 1762. During the 1920s-30s, when oriental influence and sophisticated lustre wares became market favourites, Maling could hold its own against Wedgwood, Carlton Ware and Fieldings Crown Devon. We are listing a chaming and simple example of what Maling could do at a time. Maling's Cherry Blossom pattern has been applied on a cream lustre background to a visually appealing shell-shaped, lidded butter or small cheese dish. The style of the printed back stamp, pattern number (6584), style and colourways suggest to us it was produced between 1930-1932. CONDITION In spite of its age the bowl is in very good condition (i.e no chips or cracks). We notice some typical age-related crazing in the glaze and what may be light knife marks on the surface of dish.

PRICING

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things! We try to be realistic.

You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices and the current market. We are always willing to consider realistic offers.

SHIPPING

We have a 100pc success rate for over a decade in successfully shipping fragile antiques and collectables across the UK and the wider World. We only charge what the Post Office and couriers charge us and subsidise the cost of packing materials.

International shipping? Since Covid, we have used Ebay's Global Shipping Programme because it has proved to be competitive and reliable but because of the size of this item and because it weighs well under 2kg we have quoted a shipping price based on Royal Mail tracked Airmail services.
