DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bright & realistic. These were hand painted on blanks of fine white china. The whimsical design has both solid and stippled gold. The colors used on the carnation sprays are orange, yellow, purple, pink, and green on the white porcelain. The chocolate cup has embossing on the fancy high handle making it very pretty. The decorative chocolate cup & saucer set is beautiful and could be used for a variety of purposes. Being from the early 1890's, this is a great example of the porcelain of that era. Inspect the photos carefully. Note there is no wear to the gold, especially on the handles. This cup & saucer set was lovingly used for many years. Please note that one of the saucer is slightly smaller than the other 4. This is not apparent when displayed on the table, but is noticeable when stacked. We were very fortunate to find a large collection of this pattern, #6326, that is in superb condition. This is so unusual and we will have all of it listed in our eBay store. Note that some of the items were manufactured by Coiffe & decorated by T&V while others were manufactured and decorated by T&V.
CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, it is in superb condition. 2 cups have very short, very old, tight hairlines. See the last 2 photos. We can find no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks, other hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. There is no wear to the gold. Look in the photos to see this.
DIMENSIONS: The demitasse chocolate cup has a diameter of 2 7/8" and a height of 3 1/8" with a capacity of 4 ounces. The height of to the top of the handle is 4". The diameter of the slightly smaller deep saucer is 4 7/8" with a height of 7/8". The diameter of the 4 slightly larger deep saucers is 5 1/4" with a height of 7/8".
HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850’s, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt’s son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. Interesting enough, we find Tressemann spelled as Tressemanes or Tresseman in multiple authoritative sources. The green T&V underglaze manufacturer's mark on this is Mary Frank Gaston’s mark #5a in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition. This mark was used 1892-1907. There is also the purple decorator’s mark #9 used 1892-1907. This sets the circa for the set to be 1892-1907.
