Superb Murano Glass Gold Leaf Plate C.1880
This is a beautiful and elegant example of Art Nouveau Italian glass – it is a plate or shallow bowl (possibly for serving desserts) from Murano, probably by the glass workshop of Salviati.
It has a body of very slightly pink-tinged glass with a transparent green centre, and delicate swirls of gold leaf applied to the underside of the body; there are also (if you look closely) tiny red lines swirled around the rim too. It dates to around 1880, and there is a rough pontil mark to the base, typical of glass of the period.
This is a real collectors item on account of the subtle and very sweet design, and very good condition.
Size
It measures just under 17cm (7") wide by 1” high.

Very good; there are no chips, cracks or even fleabites, and only wear to the applied gold leaf; it is in excellent collectors condition.

About me
I have collected Murano glass mostly from the 50s – 70s for some years, & recently started selling on Ebay; I buy & sell pieces I personally like. I prefer perfect pieces with labels, appealing colours, & unusual features (rarity, style, or just plain bizarre - see the photos for other examples of pieces I've recently sold). I try to describe everything I sell as honestly as possible, including any damage, issues, or attributions to a maker, in my descriptions. If you have any questions, a problem with a piece you’ve bought, or even further info on a piece I’m selling (always welcome!) please mail me. Please don’t ever leave negative feedback without speaking to me – we can always come to a solution.
