A beautiful decorative piece of Crown Devon Fieldings Made in Stoke-on-Trent England what I think is called Blush Ware. It's fully marked to the underside with a Crown and the wording Crown Devon SF & Co Stoke on Trent England WYE and a registered design number. I think that this was originally made as a piece of table ware, a handled sugar bowl.
I've done some on line research on the maker's mark or backstamp on this item and believe that this style of mark was used on Crown Devon Fieldings items between 1913 and 1917. My reasoning is that SF & Co is for S Fielding and Co (Ltd) and I've read that since 1913 the word(s) Devon or Crown Devon were incorporated into marks and in 1917 the initials SF & Co were generally dropped. With a mark used between 1913 and 1917 it makes this an antique item, most probably dating from the World War I era. If it's not quite from between those dates then it's still probably antique and at the very least I think that it must be very close to being an antique vintage item.
Looking at the registered design number I couldn't initially work it out but I've noticed that the WYE decoration range of products have the registered design number 635593 and looking again I can see that it could that so I guess it must be. The impressed mark seems to read Queen Anne even though some of the letters seem to be the wrong way round or upside down or not quite as they should be. I believe that Queen Anne is the name of the shape of the bowl.
Being such an old item it will have some signs of age, use and wear, this is to be expected. In this case there is an old repair to one of the handles and there is old glue visible, it looks to me like part broke away and it was glued back into place, there is also an associated hairline running down the bowl from where the part was reattached at the top. I haven't noticed any chips nor other cracks nor signs of any other repairs. Manufacturing imperfections appear to be minimal. There is crazing commensurate with age and I would judge that other signs of age, wear and being pre-owned are also commensurate with age. I've included close-up photographs to show examples of what I mean and also a few close-ups showing where the handle was once repaired.
To give an idea of size the height of the item to the top of the handles (measuring to the top of the handle that hasn't been repaired) measures about 3 1/2 inches or approximately 9 cm tall.
Please look through all of the photos carefully, they form a big part of the description and you to be able to check what you are buying, my description, the maker's marks and the condition etc.
