Cerridwen or Kerridwen Welsh Wiccan Pagan Goddess Statue #SS-BZ-MCER
Goddess Kerridwen Enthroned with Celtic Symbols of her Magikal Power
Cerridwen Goddess Statue
9 inches high or 22.8 cm high
Cold Cast Bronze*
In this depiction, Cerridwen tends her cauldron of wisdom and inspiration. Her herbal potions bring forth initiation and transformation. Her cauldron was the Celtic symbol for prosperity and rebirth. She is accompanied here by her totems the sow and hen as she stirs the magical brew. A heavier and more substantial statue.
Cerridwen, a Celtic Goddess, was known for creating a magical brew that was stirred for a year and a day to produce the Three Drops of Inspiration. These were stolen by a young boy who grew up to be known as Taliesin, a great bard and wizard. The myth of the Goddess' pursuit of this thief involves a dramatic series of shape changing.
Cerridwen was the muse who brought inspiration to poets, musicians, writers and those of the creative arts. Historically, Celtic bards were known as "Credo," children of Cerridwen.
*Cold Cast Bronze, Cold Cast Pewter and Bonded Marble are usually foundry-cast and produced in a pressure tank used to get bubbles out of the mold and the finished sculpture. These products are essentially resin combined with bronze powder, pewter powder and marble powder. The patina for the cold-cast bronze is built into the material used for casting, but there is a lot of hand-buffing, a process done by the artisan's hand. Finished pieces of both products are then often sealed with clear polyurethane to protect the finish. They are heavy, detailed, and a little shinier than 100% metals, and they actually look better than solid bronze. We think this new material is a fantastic compromise that keeps the beauty, substantial weight and quality, and detail of bronze while keeping replicas affordable. Because metals on the world market have nearly doubled in cost in the past few years, 100% metal statues of the same size would be at least double the cost of our cold cast bronze and pewter statues. 100% marble would also be two to three times the cost.
CARE: Our artists are continually improving materials. Some cold cast bronze items from India have arrived with a polish residue on them, and they'll need to be wiped down with a clean, dry cloth. Caring for this cold cast bronze is done just the same way, with a clean, dry cloth. No chemicals, polishes, sprays or liquids should be used, and we find that it shines them up nicely.
