Besson Class A New Standard cornet.  This instrument dates from the 1960s - made just as the brass band movement were converting from high to low pitch.  This one was built in the older style high pitch - as shown by the HP engraved on the bell, but it has been converted to play in modern pitch, which it does very well.  All of the valves work well and all of the slides and valve caps move freely.  The silver plate is mostly pretty good order apart from the tuning slide.  There are some signs of minor dent removal, especially signs of creasing to the bell flare, which I have tried to show in the relevant photo.  New valve felts and water key corks and springs have been fitted.  The case is not pretty but is solid and serviceable, and the cornet is completed with a Yamaha 11E4 mouthpiece. Overall probably not the best cornet ever but nonetheless a quality British made instrument, built like a tank, in fully working order and a far better bet, both for playing and for long term durability than a cheap Indian or Chinese instrument
