This is a visually stunning example of early Art Nouveau bakelite/plastic in combination with impressed sheet brass.
One appears to have been impressed into the other producing an amazingly colourful result in classic Art Nouveau style.
As you can see from the photo, the background light blue (Which is the Bakelite/plastic) is beautifully marbled.
Classic organic Art Nouveau designs have been cut into the sheet brass and this has been sandwiched/pressed into the molten bakelite/plastic.
The fretwork has then been filled in with red and white Bakelite producing the stunning visual result
that you see here.
Moulded on the back is Penguin Plate Patent App No: 17365. Made in Birmingham England.
The diameter is 16cm. Depth is 1cm. The circular recess to the middle is 7cm in diameter.
The item is in very good condition commensurate with it's age which will be at least 100 years old.
