The case is a wonderful flame mahogany with some exquisite fine detailing. The hood has a pretty drum head top. The hood door has a cast brass bezel which is held in place by a lock which is complete with it's key and it fully working. Below the door is superbly detailed.
The trunk has a pretty door full length door which is beautifully detailed with moulding and stunning flame mahogany veneers to the centre. The base also has a lovely frame of mouldings and is raised on pretty bracket feet.
The eight-day movement with maker’s name of 'Lawson, Edinburgh', striking the hour has a circular silver dial which has a subsidiary second and date dial. There is one Lawson of Edinburgh listed in ‘Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Scotland by Donald Whytes’:
