8462 Ashworth Borthers Jug

Description

A mid to late 19th century jug.  It was made by Ashworth Brothers of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent around 1870.  The body is moulded with stylised flower heads and oak sprigs.  The ground has been decorated with a red/brown glaze leaving the moulded details in white. To the base is the A Brox mark and the word 'May', this usually being the pattern name in such cases.  The jug would originally have had a pewter lid, the mount holes and one rivet remain, but this item is now more useful as a vase.

Condition

Some discolouration to the white glazed areas and wear to the interior.  Originally it would had been mounted with a pewter lid.  Some wear to the body.
