An absolutely beautiful Victorian Moon Phase Longcase Clock of the finest quality, in good and full working order. The clock is by the documented maker of repute "William Davies of Harlech" and dating to around 1840, William Davies has some work exhibited in one of the Welsh museums so that gives a good idea of the quality of this maker.

The lovely and unusual case is in Mahogany with carved decoration and inlaid panels of fine quality, and is in good original condition. The case door with a recessed panel with carved fan corners, original hinges and missing its lock behind the brass key escutcheon. The door is flanked by fine twist columns at each side, and with two beautifully inlaid panels above and below the door. The base with a recessed panel inside a crossbanded Mahogany edge and with matching carved fan reliefs to the corners, and the clock stands on its original front feet at a very impressive 91 1/2 inches in total height. The clock also retains its original backboard, and the clock has never had back feet which allows it lean back against the wall nicely.

The hood is Swan Neck pediment and is very unusual, the elegant horns rising up with floral and shaped carvings (some repairs) and being finished with its paterae. Below the horns there is a lovely trailing panel of inlay across the front which matched the panels found below. The glazed hood door retains its old handle, and the door is flanked by fine quality turned twist and carved columns at each side.

The painted arched Moon dial is in totally original condition, the four corners having lovely rural landscape scenes with figures. The hours are represented by Roman Numerals, with an outer minute ring, the centre of the dial with the fully working subsidiary seconds dial and working 31 day calendar aperture above the makers signature. The top arch with the revolving moon dial which has two moon faces, a cottage landscape scene with a windmill, and a well painted seascape. The moon dial sits below the 29 1/2 day lunar calendar which is around the very top arch, and the dial is finished with its full set of hands.

The 4 pillar, rack and snail striking, 8 day duration movement is in beautiful pristine condition, the previous owners having the clock fully cleaned and serviced in the last couple of years. It is in good working order, chiming out the hours on a single bell, everything is working perfectly on the clock including the rolling moon and the calendar dial. The clock comes complete with it's old weights and pendulum, along with a winding key.

Dimensions - 91 1/2 inches high, 24 inches wide at the top of the hood.

Faults; There are some minor chips and cracks as you would expect from a clock that is almost 180 years old, there is some minor lifting to the veneer on the hood inlay, the horns have a crack where an old repair has been made, and the dial is a little faded in places with one small chip near the calendar. I can't stress how unusual this clock is though with all the features, where have you seen another one like this example!

Overall a lovely Mahogany & inlaid Moon phase longcase clock in good working order, ready to go straight into your home. Delivery and personal "in house" set up can be arranged depending on distance, please email for details.

It has been brought to my attention that someone on EBay is sending scam emails offering to sell goods similar to my goods at cheaper prices from abroad. This is a deliberate attempt to deceive, these items are all in my possession. They will ask you to send money to them, DO NOT, they do not have any goods to sell, you will never hear from them once you have paid. I only answer to emails that you send to me, and will never send emails to you offering to sell you goods at ridiculously low prices. If you receive one, please let me know and I will report it to eBay immediately. Because of these emails, I have now decided to make all my auctions private auctions so my customers will not be bombarded by these fraudulent people. Thanks.
