A delightful English antique watercolour on ivory head and shoulders miniature portrait of a gentleman.Label verso states that the sitter is Captain Andrew Guthrie and dated 1802.
The label also refers to a Martin Marner - could this be the artist or should it say master mariner?
Although unsigned, the miniature has been undertaken by an accomplished hand.
Set within
the original gilt slip, behind glass and within an ebonised frame, this is
charming period item.
Condition - overall good - some wear to out left edge of ebonsied frame.
Later backing also apparent.
