This is a beautiful rosewood tea caddy in lovely condition.  The rosewood exterior is in excellent condition with no losses and there are no issues with cracks or splits or any other issues to the rosewood which is smooth and shiny to the touch with a lovely grain.

The tea caddy is rectangular in shape and sits on four attractive bun feet.  The box sits solidly on its feet and there are no issues with tipping or rocking.  The bun feet are original to the box and are perfectly solid and attractive.

This tea caddy has its original brass hinges which still work beautifully well and the tea caddy opens and closes excellently with no difficulties.

This tea caddy has its original keyhole, lock and diamond shaped ivory escutcheon but it does not have its key.  The ivory diamond around the escutcheon has one minor which is being mentioned for completeness and does not detract from the appearance or functioning of the tea caddy.

The external measurements of the tea caddy are: width  31.5 cm / 12.5 inches. Height 16.5 cm / 6.5 inches and depth is 16 cm / 6.25 inches.

Internally the tea caddy has two rosewood veneered cannisters, one each side of the central mixing well where the tea leaves would have been mixed together in a glass bowl.  The cannisters inside this tea caddy each have a hinged lid and both open and close beautifully well with their original hinges still intact and working well.  The cannisters can each be removed from the tea caddy.  They each have a lining of silver foil which is not original and which could be removed or retained as desired.  There is some evidence of use where the tea cannisters have been opened and closed over the years.

The inside of the lid of the tea caddy has its original dark red lining paper which is still in excellent condition.

All in all this is a really gorgeous Georgian tea caddy of lovely quality which would make a lovely addition to a decorative scheme.  For the collector, this would make a lovely addition to a collection of high quality tea caddies.
