Issuing Bank :

Royal Bank of Scotland founded by the Royal Charter on 31 May 1727.  The new bank opened for business in Ship Close, Edinburgh in December 1727 and later began issuing its own banknotes, a practice that continues to this day.  On the first anniversary of its foundation, the bank invented the ‘overdraft’ and in 1783 they opened in Glasgow, their first branch outside of Edinburgh.
